Flowers in a Glass Vase

Le Bas purchased this painting by Vanessa Bell in 1949. Bell was associated with the art movement called Bloomsbury. It was named after the district in central London where a group of artists and intellectuals lived from 1904 to 1940. Bloomsbury artists were inspired by the Post-Impressionists and painted a variety of subjects. Matisse and Picasso, in particular, influenced Vanessa Bell’s painting.
