Dawson's Buildings, City Road, Hulme 1955 pencil by Laurence Stephen Lowry (1887-1976).

Street scene showing back lane of terraced houses with children, dogs and dustbins.

Carel Weight  acquired this drawing for his personal collection part of which he later bequeathed to Tullie House in 1999. Weight was drawn to the work of Lowry because of their shared interest in urban imagery and industrial townscapes. Like Weight, Lowry’s works often focus on eccentric characters.
