And it’s up. Sedition is now well and truly declared open.
The preview on Friday was a great success. At one point, we had about four people standing in every square metre of space and, when visitor figures reached 400, we gave up counting. All the artists seemed very happy and there was a real buzz about the place. There were the inevitable last-minute glitches and hitches: what was to have been a wall drawing became a cut-out; not all of the films worked on all of the players, necessitating an emergency run out to purchase more equipment; and momentarily we thought we’d blown all of the lights in one of the installations. However, if you’re not still painting walls and sweeping up when the doors open, it just doesn’t feel right.
When I came in on the Saturday, I was accosted by both staff and artists panicking about turning on all of the audio-visual equipment (ten film works mean a lot of remotes...) but the dust is now settling and it’s business as usual. So, come along.
