The Good Shepherd, 1880

This is Burne-Jones’ original full-size design for The Good Shepherd designed for the centre top of the window.

The Good Shepherd 1880 black chalk by Edward Burne-Jones (1833 - 1898).

Full size drawing of The Good Shepherd in full-face, wearing loose robes and carrying a lamb across his shoulders. He wears a crown of thorns and has a nimbus above his head.

This cartoon is one of 15 figures designed for the East window at St Martin's Church, Brampton. This figure was designed for the centre top of the window. All the figures were designed specifically for Brampton but were subsequently much repeated.

There are these inscriptions on the exhibit:
