This drawing by Rossetti also deals with relationships. It offers a rare glimpse of Rossetti’s studio in London. The artist George Price Boyce is shown in a slightly improper pose with Fanny Cornforth, close friend and possibly mistress to Boyce and Rossetti.
George Price Boyce with Fanny Cornforth in Rossetti’s Studio, Chatham Place, Blackfriars, London about 1858 by Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828–1882). Ink.
This drawing was not attributed to Rossetti until 1973. It shows Fanny Cornforth in a slightly improper pose, and the artist George Price Boyce in Rossetti’s studio in Blackfriars, London, in about 1858. At this time Cornforth was a close friend of Boyce and Rossetti and was possibly their mistress. In the top left corner of the picture hangs a portrait inscribed ‘Ruth’ which depicts Louisa Ruth Herbert, an actress and close friend of Rossetti.
